Morpeth Museum

The museum is situated in the centre of town in Swan Street. It is across the road from the Morpeth Bridge which spans the Hunter River. It is adjacent to all the shops, cafes and attractions of the historic township. The museum is in the heritage building originally built for the Court House.

The Morpeth Court House was constructed in 1862 on land donated by Lieutenant E C Close and was designed by architect Mortimer Lewis Jnr., the Government’s Clerk of Works in the Hunter region. The museum was opened in 1971 as part of the celebration of Morpeth’s Sesqui-centenary and is staffed by volunteers.
